A 67-year old woman who used Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder was diagnosed with mesothelioma, asbestos-linked cancer, in October 2017.

  • Where: New York City, NY
  • What Product(s): Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder
  • Who the defendants were:  Johnson & Johnson
  • How much was awarded: After a 14-week trial, a jury sided with the plaintiff in May 2019 and decided on a verdict of $325 million. Later, in November 2020, a NY state court judge reduced the jury verdict to $120 million, which the plaintiff could accept or, if it was rejected by plaintiff, there would be a new trial of this asbestos-contaminated talc mesothelioma lawsuit.
  • Update: The jury verdict against Johnson & Johnson was reversed in July 2022.

A 62-year old woman who used baby powder daily starting as a young child was diagnosed with the asbestos-linked cancer in October 2019.

  • Who the defendants were:  Johnson & Johnson
  • How much was awarded: Settlement reached just before start of lawsuit trial for an unknown amount.

Woman alleges she developed mesothelioma in July 2018 from asbestos in Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder product after she had used it as part of her daily routine for decades.

  • Who the defendants were:  Johnson & Johnson
  • How much was awarded: Settlement reached during opening statements by lawyers during start of lawsuit trial.

Woman alleges she developed mesothelioma from asbestos in Revlon’s Charlie talcum powder product.

  • When: 2019
  • Where: New York City, NY
  • What Product(s): Revlon’s Charlie talcum powder product
  • Who the defendants were: Revlon
  • How much was awarded: Trial continued from May 2019 to October 2019 by trial court judge at the request of defense attorneys for Revlon.

Woman used talcum powder products on herself from age eight until about age 31, and said when the powder created a cloud as she applied it, then she breathed in some of the talc particles. Many years later was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

  • When: 2019
  • Where: New York City, NY
  • What Product(s): Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower to Shower
  • Who the defendants were: Johnson & Johnson
  • How much was awarded: $25 million in compensatory damages PLUS $300 million in punitive damages

Subject alleges that her 2017 diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma is due to exposure to Johnson & Johnson’s asbestos-contaminated talc in talcum baby powder.

  • When: 2019 (Trial date rescheduled late November 2018 for January 2019)*
  • Where: New York City, NY
  • What Product(s): Johnson’s Baby Powder
  • Who the defendants were: Johnson & Johnson; Imerys Talc America
  • How much was awarded: *J&J reportedly settled its first Baby Powder case here, teaming up with talc supplier Imerys America Inc. in December 2018 to pay more than $1.5 million to resolve this woman’s claims.

Subject died of peritoneal mesothelioma due to exposure to asbestos-contaminated talc in cosmetic talcum powder.

  • When: 2017
  • Where: New York County, NY
  • What Product(s): Desert Flower
  • Who the defendants were: Whittaker Clark & Daniels; Shulton
  • How much was awarded: $16.5 million.
  • Update: The jury verdict against Whittaker, Clark & Daniels was reversed in April 2022. Plaintiff settled with all other Defendants prior to trial.

Subject died of mesothelioma due to exposure to asbestos-contaminated talc in cosmetic talcum powder.

  • When: 2017
  • Where: New York City, NY
  • What Product(s): Desert Flower
  • Who the defendants were: Whittaker, Clark & Daniels
  • How much was awarded: $7 million  (Note: Jury verdict was vacated by a New York state appeals court in June 2019.)
